Kathmandu, Jan 5: Participants at a function here Sunday called for implementing the United Nations Resolution to end the long-running conflict in Jammu and Kashmir.

They shared their views at an interaction on “Right to Self Determination for the People of Jammu Kashmir’ organized by Kathmandu-based Pakistan Embassy.

Pakistani ambassador to Nepal Dr Mazhar Javed shed light on the genesis of the dispute and the adoption of UNSC resolutions promising the people of Jammu and Kashmir their right to self-determination.

“Non-implementation of these resolutions had subjected several generations of the people of IOJ & K to grave sufferings and challenged the peace and stability of the region,” he said.

Senior journalist Dhrubahari Adhikari, political analyst Surendra KC and rights activist Kapil Shrestha, among others, expressed their concern on the worsening human rights situation in Kashmir resulting from the five-month old clampdown.

On the occasion, messages of the President, Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of Pakistan were read out. Pakistani top leaders said that the current situation in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJ &K) is the worst in recent history where people have been deprived of their fundamental rights, including rights to life, food, health, freedom of expression and assembly as well and self-determination.
