NCP meet vows to remove Indian troops from Kalapani

KATHMANDU, Dec 23: The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has vowed to take immediate steps to remove the Indian security camps and remove Indian troops from the Kalapani area in far-western Nepal through diplomatic channels.

Endorsing a four-point special proposal from its standing committee meeting, the party said it rejects the recently released political map of India and has vowed to initiate diplomatic efforts to take back the Indian-encroached Nepal territory. The new Indian map released in the first week of November has placed Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura inside Indian border.

“The meeting rejects the political map released by India and declares it unacceptable,” reads the proposal endorsed by the meeting, adding, “Expressing serious concerns over Indian the move to include the Nepali territory in Kalapani, Lipulek and Limpiyadhura within its border, the meeting decides to take adequate efforts to take back the encroached land, send back the Indian security personnel and remove their camps.”

The party has stated that the Indian move to release an incorrect map at a time when a foreign ministers led joint-mechanism is working to settle the border issues is objectionable.

In Nepal, protests demonstrations were organized across the country, including in Kathmandu after the Indian map came out. Immediately afterward, Prime Minister KP Oli had called an all-party meeting inviting former prime ministers, foreign ministers, border experts and diplomats at his office to discuss the issue.

Then a diplomatic note was sent to India expressing concerns over the border issue and for resolving the dispute diplomatically.

Sunday’s NCP meeting praised the initiative of the government to forge national consensus on border dispute and urged the government to expedite diplomatic efforts to remove the Indian troops from the Nepali territory.
