Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will undergo a second kidney transplant at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital Maharajgunj on Wednesday, according to Nepal Communist Party spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
“The prime minister told today’s Secretariat meeting about the plan to undergo a kidney transplant,” Shrestha told the Post after the meeting at Baluwatar. “He will be admitted to the hospital on Monday.”

Oli underwent his first kidney transplant in 2007 at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi.

Doctors attending to Oli had been mulling a second kidney transplant for quite some time after symptoms of dysfunction September last year. Oli had flown to Singapore for check-ups and treatment last year.

He had been undergoing dialysis on a regular basis in recent days.

Surya Thapa, the press advisor to Oli, said that Sunday’s Secretariat meeting ended with extending wishes for successful transplantation.

The party Secretariat was expected to discuss the ongoing dispute over the decision to take Bamdev Gautam to the National Assembly. Oli, who is also the chairman of the party, has taken exception to the Secretariat decision to make Gautam a member of the Upper House.

“The meeting ended after the prime minister briefed about his kidney transplant plan,” said Shrestha.
