Kathmandu, Dec 23: Hearing on writ petitions filed in the Supreme Court (SC) against the dissolution of the House of Representative (HoR) is scheduled for today.
President Bidhya Devi Bhandari had dissolved parliament at the recommendation of Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli on December 20. Following the unprecedented move taken by the Oli-led government, as many as 12 writ petitions have been filed at the apex court against the dissolution of parliament and the appointments made in the constitutional bodies.
Of the 12 writ petitions filed in SC, preliminary hearings on 11 petitions are filed for today. Hearing of the remaining one is scheduled for Friday.
Following the sudden move to dissolve the HoR by the Oli-led government, all eyes are now on the Supreme Court. Any verdict made by the apex court on the fate of HoR that has nearly two year term still due will determine the country’s political course.
