Risk Of COVID-19 Re-Infection Higher In Unvaccinated People: Experts

By Bishnu Pandey, Oct. 26: The public health specialists have warned that the risk of re-infection of COVID-19 was comparatively higher in those who have not been vaccinated.

The nature of infection in unvaccinated groups could be serious in comparison to the nature of infection in those who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, say the doctors.

According to infectious disease specialist Dr. Sher Bahadur Pun of Teku Hospital, the threat of re-infection was higher in the people who have not received the vaccines against novel coronavirus.

“The cases of fatality is also higher among the unvaccinated population,” he said, requesting everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

“The effects of coronavirus infection in our bodies vary depending upon whether we have been fully inoculated or not,” said Dr. Pun.

Similarly, public health specialist Dr. Sujan Babu Marahattha stressed that it was vital to get vaccinated against COVID-19 on time as the consequences of the infection on unvaccinated people could be serious.

“In comparison, the vaccinated group recovers way faster than the unvaccinated people,” he said.

Moreover, health expert Dr. Prabhat Adhikari also said that the re-infection of the coronavirus could be deadlier. “As the immunity power of those who have not received the COVID-19 vaccine yet is lower, they are at a higher risk,” he said.

However, Dr. Adhikari highlighted that the vaccines may not work fully if an inoculated person is infected with the new variant of coronavirus.

“Thus, we should continue following all the public health standards. As it has been found that the level of antibodies in vaccinated people start decreasing over time, all of us regardless of being vaccinated or unvaccinated should adopt all the health safety measures to remain safe from COVID-19,” Dr. Adhikari added.
