Seven members of a family die in Jumla landslide

Kathmandu, Oct 8: Seven members of the same family died in a landslide that buried their house in the Jumla district. Similarly, two others have been injured.

The landslide buried the house belonging to Ganesh Bahadur Shahi at Barkotebada of Kanakasundari Rural Municipality-5, which killed seven members of Shahi’s family. The disaster occurred early morning on Saturday, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Narendra Chand.

Talking to the Rashtriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) over the phone, DSP Chand said, “We got the information that the landslide occurred at 4:00 am. As they were sleeping, they could not escape the tragedy. Police and locals have recovered all seven dead bodies and injured ones taken to a health facility for treatment.”

Rainfall is continuous in Jumla. Roadways are damaged and blocked in many places, creating difficulty for movement.

However, a team of the district security committees has moved to the disaster-hit area. “We’re on the way- clearing debris and moving ahead. Possibly, we reach the incident site by this evening,” he added.

Even the telephone service has been disrupted in the district. (RSS)
