Maitighar-Baneshwar stretch declared prohibited zone

Kathmandu, Nov 20: The District Administrative Office, Kathmandu has declared the Maitighar to Baneshwar road section as a prohibited area for a month.

Chief District Officer Jitendra Basnet enforced the prohibitory order from Monday to December 16 with immediate effect.

The order prohibits gatherings in groups of more than five people, staging protests, demonstrations, processions, hunger strikes, or meetings in the area.

The prohibition has been imposed to prevent any untoward incidents that could take place during such large gatherings, the order reads.

“When one or more groups simultaneously gather on the same date, time and place and organise programmes such as fasting, sit-ins and protests, the different groups may engage in disputes, quarrels and confrontations violating the law and order and there may be riots or disturbances,” read the order issued by Basnet.

The order comes days before the UML’s Sister Wings Coordination Mechanism and controversial businessman Durga Prasai are set to hold separate Kathmandu-centric demonstrations on November 23.
