Foreigner Married To Nepali Citizen To Be Provided With Citizenship After 7 Years Of Marriage: NCP Secretariat

Kathmandu, June 20: The meeting of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) secretariat has concluded that a woman of foreign nationality married to a Nepali citizen should be entitled for citizenship after seven years of marriage.

Likewise, the meeting concluded that it would be appropriate to provide citizenship to a woman of foreign nationality married to a Nepali citizen only if a reasonable evidence of staying in Nepal for seven years and withdrawal of citizenship or any other equivalent documents of other country is presented to the concerned authority.

Narayankaji Shrestha, spokesperson of the NCP said, “In case of getting married to a Non Resident Nepali (NRN), the socio-economic and cultural rights would be ensured from the day of marriage and the NRN identity card would be provided shortly.”

Shrestha said that discussion as to Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) was not held in the meeting.
