Govt Defers Plan To Resume Domestic Flights And Long-distance Bus Services For 15 Days

Kathmandu, Aug 31: The government has decided not to resume the operation of domestic flights and long distance bus services until September 16.

A cabinet meeting held at the official residence of Prime Minister K P Oli at Baluwatar on Sunday evening made the decision keeping in view of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases across the country in recent days.

Earlier, the government had announced to resume the operation of domestic flights and long distance bus services starting September 1. But the plan has been deferred for 15 days in view of the worsening situation of COVID-19 pandemic, according to a minister.

Similarly, the cabinet meeting has decided not to open schools and other academic institutions until September 16. The decision comes amid fears that students may have to lose one whole academic session due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The cabinet meeting, however, has decided to allow international flights to help bring stranded Nepali nationals home. The concerned airlines must fulfill the criteria set by the government to operate any such flights.
