President’s move a serious blow on Constitution, federal parliament: ruling parties

Kathmandu, Sept. 21: The ruling parties have concluded that the unconstitutional move of the President has disrespected and ignored the value of the federal parliament which is elected by the people.

The ruling coalition also took it as a blow over the constitutional provision of the President to follow and protect the Constitution by not authenticating as enshrined in the Constitution the Citizenship bill within 15 from the date it was submitted to her after endorsement from the federal parliament.

A joint statement issued after the meeting of the ruling five parties held Wednesday morning highlighted that President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s move has been a serious blow to basic values of the sovereignty of the people, constitutional supremacy and democratic ruling system as provisioned in the constitution promulgated by the people-elected Constituent Assembly (CA).

Meanwhile, the RSS added that ” By this move of the President, children of those parents who possess Nepali citizenship have been denied their Constitutional right to obtain the citizenship, and it is capable of attacking the people’s sovereignty, constitutional supremacy and basic democratic norms and values,” according to the press note issued after the meeting.

The note is signed by Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre ) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, former Prime Minister and CPN ( Unified Socialist) Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal and former Deputy Prime Minister and Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal’s Chair Upendra Yadav.
