Voters’ Turnout Stands At 61 Per Cent, Polls Largely Peaceful

Kathmandu, Nov 20: The voters’ turnout remained around 61 per cent as per the preliminary report of the Election Commission (EC).

The voting that started from 7 am today to till 5 pm for the elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and provincial assembly are over and the details of the turnout continue to arrive, the EC said.

Voting was conducted in a peaceful and enthusiastic manner across the country, sparing some general incidents, according to the EC. Although the designated voting time is over, the voters who have already entered the polling centres or are within few yards of the centre can cast their voting.

In Madhesh Province, voting was conducted in all polling centres without any postponement.

Voting process was obstructed in some districts such as Bajura, Surkhet, Taplejung, Nawalparasi (Susta Purba), Gulmi and Dolakha after disputes between the political parties and the candidate hopefuls ensued, the EC stated. (RSS)

Meanwhile, the elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and provincial assembly held today were conducted in a peaceful and systematic ways except some sporadic incidents, the election observers said.

The General Election Observation Committee (GEOC) Nepal said there was an encouraging participation of people with physical disabilities, senior citizens and voters of different classes, communities, sexes and status in the elections.

General Secretary of GEOC Krishna Man Pradhan said political parties, candidates and voters’ restrained, constructive and calm manner helped contribute to the peaceful happening of the elections. The organization drew such conclusion based on a preliminary report of 10 special observers’ team that comprised former Chief Justice, former Chief Election Commissioner, for Chief Secretary and others.

GEOC had deployed the polls observers across the country.

Likewise, the National Election Observation Committee (NEOC) also deployed 1,800 observers to observe the polls nationwide.(RSS)
