Kathmandu, March 6: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has taken a significant lead in the initial vote counting of the House of Representatives elections, with its candidates leading in 110 constituencies across the country.
As of Friday evening, the traditional political forces—the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML—are trailing significantly, with both parties leading in only 10 constituencies each. The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) is ahead in eight constituencies, while other fringe parties hold leads in nine others.
The RSP has secured three confirmed victories so far. Ranju Darshana Neupane emerged victorious in Kathmandu-1, while Shishir Khanal, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha and Rajunath Pandey secured seats in Kathmandu-6 , Kathmandu-8, and Kathmandu-3 respectively.
The Nepali Congress has registered two wins to its name. Tek Bahadur Gurung won in Manang, and Yogesh Gauchan Thakali was declared the winner in Mustang.
Meanwhile, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party, has claimed a seat in Rukum East.
The CPN-UML and other political groups have yet to register a confirmed win as the Election Commission continues the gruelling task of counting ballots from the March 5 polls. Preliminary trends suggest a strong wave in favour of the RSP, particularly in urban centres and among younger voters, as party leaders maintain comfortable leads in several key constituencies.
