By Bom Lal Giri, Nawalpur, Sept. 17: Presence of carbon in rock is attributed to the emission of smoke with smell of gunpowder from the Ghangi cliff at Pelega in Hupsekot Rural Municipality-6.
A team of experts from Department of Mines and Geology, Dhaubadi Iron Company Limited and Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) that visited the area on Wednesday observed that due to present of carbon in the rock there is continuous emission of smoke from underground.
“If the proportion of carbon was greater in the rock, there could be fire, but as the carbon mixture in rock is less, there is only the smoke,” said Prakash Luitel, coordinator of the expert team and geologist from the Department of Mines and Geology, “There could be other chemicals, and we can say about that only after the result of the test of the samples from this place.”
