Kathmandu, Sept 11: Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has said that the government is planning to roll out five special packages to make the economy more vibrant.
Addressing the 28th annual general meeting of the Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON), he shared that work has been forwarded through five packages covering various sectors to improve the economy.
The Finance Minister said that under the first package, necessary work related to recovery and rehabilitation is underway in the aftermath of the damage caused by the Bhotekoshi flood. He mentioned that studies have already been carried out to provide relief and restoration for the flood-affected industrialists, businesspeople, and the general public.
He said preparations are underway to come up with a 10 to 12-point policy reform plan within a week to address the sluggish capital market under the second package.
The Finance Minister shared on the occasion that preparations are underway to announce a special package soon to promote and revive the private sector, saying it will be taken forward as the third package.
He informed that the government is prioritizing efforts to remove Nepal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) ‘grey list’ under the fourth package.
Finance Minister Wagle said that work is underway under the fifth package to mobilize international finance for the reconstruction of the damage caused by the Bhotekoshi flood. “We are also moving forward in bringing in international funds and managing them properly,” he said.
Anjan Shrestha, president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, emphasized that since the Bhotekoshi flood caused unimaginable damage, the government should introduce a special package for affected industrialists, businessmen, and traders to promote the private sector.(RSS)
