Kawaswoti (Nawalparasi) Dec. 6: President of the main opposition party, the Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba said on Friday that Nepal could not discard the agenda and demand of getting Lipu Lek and Kalapani back from India at any cost. NC President Deuba, who is also a former Prime Minister, said that when he was the executive head of the government he had reached an agreement clarifying that Lipu Lek and Kalapani were Nepal’s territory.Leader Deuba made these remarks while speaking at a ceremony organised by Nepal Press Union in Nawalpur to distribute Suryabhakta Patanadevi Memorial National Journalism Award. Deuba also accused the present government of keeping mum on the national issue. “I am amazed why the government is silent on the issues of Lipu Lek and Kalapani,” Deuba said.The present government should seek solution to this problem instantly, suggested the NC president. He also accused the present government of trying to impose a communist rule in the country. “There is a challenge for the NC to move ahead cautiously by safeguarding democracy and the Constitution,” he said.
He said that the communists by nature were dictators and there was need of the NC to prevent them from becoming dictators. “Without having unity within the NC, we could not move ahead and defend the ruling party’s agendas,” Deuba said. In the function, Deuba awarded this year’s Suryabhakta Patanadevi Journalism Award to former chief editor and executive chairman of Gorkhapatra Daily Kishor Nepal with cash Rs. prize of Rs. 25,125 and certificate.
