SC to pass its verdict on HoR dissolution case next week

KATHMANDU, July 3: The Supreme Court (SC) is likely to pass its verdict on the House of Representatives (HoR) dissolution case next week.

Hearing on the writ petitions filed against the HoR dissolution is currently being conducted at the constitutional bench comprising Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JBR, Dipak Kumar Karki, Mira Khadka, Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Dr Ananda Mohan Bhattarai.

Both the petitioners and defendants have concluded their debate regarding the case.

Lawyers representing the Speaker of the house, Agni Prasad Sapkota, will be pleading for two hours on Sunday. Senior advocates Shyam Prasad Kharel, Lava Kumar Mainali and Upendra Keshari Neupane and advocates duo Meghraj Pokharel and Shree Krishna Subedi will take part in the debate on behalf of Speaker Sapkota. After that petitioners will be given time to answer and at last amicus curiae will make their arguments on the case.

The apex court will then pass its verdict in favor or against the government.

As many as 146 lawmakers including Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba of dissolved parliament had filed writ petitions against the HoR dissolution demanding reinstatement of the lower house of parliament and appointment of Deuba in the post of Prime Minister.
