Kathmandu, April 13: Rinchen R. Rakshaev, Charge D’Affaires of the Russian Embassy in Nepal, on Monday highlighted the role of media in preserving and strengthening Russia-Nepal relations.
“Right now, we have opportunities to strengthen economic cooperation between our countries – built on the friendship of our peoples, good traditions, and rich accumulated experience – in key sectors for Nepal: energy, fertilizer supplies and tourism,” said Rakshaev while addressing a programme organised on the eve of Nepal’s new year 2083.
He noted that the number of Russian tourists slightly grew in last month.
In today’s complex and rapidly changing global information environment, the role of journalists is more important than ever – particularly when it comes to boosting the traditionally friendly relations between nations, he said, adding that their work helps Russia-Nepal relations to be reflected accurately, free from distortion and grounded in facts, thereby contributing to mutual trust and respect.
“As for the future, your impartial coverage and consideration of Russia as a reliable and important partner will lay a solid foundation for our joint efforts and will serve the interests of the people of Nepal, he added.
He stressed collaboration between Russian and Nepalese media in general and for some concrete projects like emerging cooperation between the Russian Journalist Union and Journalists for Justice Nepal or participation of Nepalese experts in the Global Fact-Checking Network, established in Russia two years ago.
He said that the Embassy, in its turn, remained open and interested in further developing interaction with the media and expert community of Nepal.
“We are ready to facilitate connections with Russian media and leading experts on the issues you are interested in. We believe that transparent and respectful communication between diplomats and media representatives is an essential component for strong bilateral relations,” he informed.
Media persons and representatives from different news organisations attended the programme.
