Govt focused on bringing real, tangible progress in people’s lives: PM Shah

Kathmandu, May 26: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said that the government is committed to bringing real and tangible progress in the lives of the people.

At a joint meeting with EU Ambassadors, PM Shah said that he has a deep realization of the responsibility handed over to him by people and also that of the need of the time.

According to Deepa Dahal, press and research expert to PM Shah, the PM made it clear that there will be continuity of policy although a new government was in place following the March 5 election that gave a decisive mandate for good governance and inclusive economic prosperity.

“To be new does not mean to detach totally from the past. While ensuring Nepal’s policy orientation clear, stable and predictable, we are fully committed to maintain political stability and preservation of democratic norms and values,” PM’s secretariat quoted the PM as saying in the meeting with the EU Ambassadors.PM Shah said that the government was committed to achieving sustainable development, and promoting innovation by making the processes easier for foreign investment as well as creating new opportunities for people by means of global market and its benefits.

The Prime Minister made it clear that Nepal will continue adopting a pragmatic and balanced foreign policy.

“Our relationship with our neighbours, development partners and friendly countries will be guided by the principle of mutual respect, sovereign equality and shared prosperity,” said Prime Minister Shah.

Noting that the EU has been assisting and showing goodwill for Nepal’s development and prosperity, the PM expressed gratitude to Nepal’s development partners and friendly countries.

On the occasion, he highlighted that Nepal was working to collaborate for trade, investment, green energy, climate change, tourism and other major sectors and strengthen existing cooperation on these issues.

Saying that the common people were affected the most due to conflict in different parts of the world, PM Shah stressed that dialogue, diplomacy and international law should be prioritized over military conflict for maintaining peace.

In response, the EU Ambassadors said that they were ready for cooperation with and investment in Nepal in different sectors for economic growth and prosperity.

The Ambassadors lauded peaceful conduction of the HoR election and congratulated PM Shah for leading the government with a people’s mandate for good governance, economic development and prosperity.
