1.2 million landless, squatters have applied for land’

Kathmandu, July 6: Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration Pratibha Rawal has said that some 1.2 million landless and squatters have submitted applied to the government for land.

Minister Rawal said so today at the meeting of the National Assembly while responding to queries raised during discussion on Appropriation Bill 2083.

She said that the government was working with high priority to provide land to the landless and squatters.

“The government has already started to provide land ownership certificate to landless from Bardiya. There will be no shortage of budget for this,” said the Minister, “A sum of 613 million has been allocated for this”.

She added that the high attention was paid on scientific land reform and production centered land management as well as local level strengthening.

Minister Rawal said that programme to refund deposit amount from crisis-ridden cooperatives will continue.

She expressed confidence that anomalies seen in civil service will end now as trade union was terminated and that administrative federalism will be more effective when federal civil service Act is issued.
