Prime Minister Oli to undergo floor test on Sunday

Kathmandu, July 17: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will seek a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives on Sunday.

Oli, who was appointed prime minister as per Article 76(2) of the constitution with the support of the Nepali Congress on Sunday, will undergo a floor test as per the mandatory constitutional provision.

As per the constitutional provision, a prime minister appointed under Article 76(2) needs to secure a vote of confidence from the Parliament within 30 days of the appointment.

As Oli of the CPN-UML, the second-largest party in the lower house, is backed by the largest party of the House Nepali, Congress, among other fringe parties, he is certain to secure a majority in favour of his trust motion.

On Sunday, President Ramchandra Paudel appointed CPN-UML chair Oli as prime minister after he showed the support of 166 lawmakers.

The prime minister needs to garner 138 votes in the 275-member House of Representatives to endorse his motion of trust by the majority of the chamber.
